The phrase “over the top” seems woefully inadequate when describing Bugatti’s latest creation. Just when you thought the nearly $5 million Bugatti Tourbillon couldn’t get any more extravagant, the legendary automaker has unveiled the Équipe Pur Sang package—a visual and performance enhancement that transforms the already extraordinary hypercar into something that borders on automotive theater.
The most striking feature? Eight exhaust pipes protruding from the rear like cannons on a battleship. This octet of circular tips replaces the standard model’s four trapezoidal outlets, creating what might be the most dramatic exhaust system ever fitted to a production vehicle. It’s an unmistakable visual signature that ensures no one will confuse this Bugatti with anything else on the road—as if that were ever a concern.
For those wondering about the name, “Équipe Pur Sang” translates from French to “Thoroughbred Team” in English, paying homage to Bugatti’s illustrious racing heritage. The package represents much more than just additional exhaust plumbing, however. It includes a comprehensive set of aerodynamic enhancements designed to improve both form and function.
At the front, a newly designed splitter improves downforce, while the rear features a bespoke deployable wing with small endplates that enhance aerodynamic efficiency and stability during high-speed cornering. A revised rear diffuser complements these additions, working in concert with the other aerodynamic elements to generate additional downforce while maintaining optimal airflow.
The wheels also receive special attention in the Équipe Pur Sang package. The directional design measures 20 inches at the front and 21 inches at the rear, featuring thin spokes that serve a practical purpose beyond their striking appearance. According to Bugatti, this design reduces turbulence and directs more air to the rear radiator, improving cooling effectiveness by up to 8 percent—a meaningful gain for a car that produces such enormous power.
Inside the cabin, the EPS package continues the theme of heightened performance with specially designed bucket seats that provide enhanced lateral support during high-g cornering maneuvers. These performance seats feature “Équipe Pur Sang” embroidery on the headrests, and similar embroidery appears on the dashboard. The interior is finished with Black Poli trim and the Medium Carbon Fiber Interior Package, while Alcantara upholstery adds both luxury and functionality.
The mechanical specifications remain unchanged from the standard Tourbillon, which is hardly a disappointment. The heart of this beast is a naturally aspirated 8.3-liter V16 engine that works in conjunction with three electric motors and a 25 kWh battery pack. This hybrid powertrain generates a combined output of 1,775 horsepower (1,800 PS), making it one of the most powerful production cars in the world. The electrification also enables a pure electric driving range exceeding 37 miles (60 km).
“With each new era of Bugatti, we seek to honor our heritage while pushing the boundaries of what’s possible,” said Hendrick Malinowski, Bugatti’s managing director. “The Tourbillon already represents an unprecedented fusion of naturally aspirated power and electrification—a hyper sports car conceived for eternity. With the Équipe Pur Sang option, we elevate its appearance towards the track, enabling customers to celebrate the pure racing soul that has defined Bugatti for over a century.”
For potential owners, the Tourbillon ordering process is as bespoke as the car itself. Customers travel to the Château Saint Jean in Molsheim or their nearest Bugatti retailer to participate in the commissioning process. There, they can select from an extensive palette of customization options: 23 exterior colors, 20 leather choices, 10 Alcantara options, and seven carpet colors. Even the instrument cluster offers multiple configurations, as it’s crafted by Swiss watchmakers.
While Bugatti hasn’t disclosed the cost of the Équipe Pur Sang package, it’s safe to assume it won’t come cheap. Considering the base Tourbillon already commands approximately €3.8 million ($4.1 million / £3.2 million), this exclusive option package will likely add a significant premium to an already stratospheric price tag. Production of the Tourbillon is limited to just 250 units worldwide, ensuring its exclusivity.
The Équipe Pur Sang package represents Bugatti’s commitment to providing the ultimate in automotive customization. In a world where luxury and performance cars are becoming increasingly homogenized, Bugatti continues to push boundaries with designs that are as functional as they are flamboyant. The eight-pipe exhaust system may seem excessive, but for Bugatti’s clientele, excess is precisely the point.
For the select few who will own a Bugatti Tourbillon, the Équipe Pur Sang package offers a way to make their hyper-exclusive vehicle even more distinctive. After all, when you’re spending $5 million on a car, why settle for just four exhaust pipes when you can have eight?
